It is World Alzheimer's month. A startling fact is that every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. Our advice would be to plan ahead and make sure Wills and Power of Attorney are up to date and ready for when you or a family members might need them. One worry less!

It's a misconception to think "I've not got very much, I'll no bother with a will. The family'll just share it when I'm gone" You'd be surprised a) how assets add up and b) the number of families who fall out seriously over a seemingly worthless memento. Speak to a solicitor.
If you are in the throws of separation or divorce and have children, did you know that a child of twelve or over is assumed to be old enough to say what their views are. Listen to the youngsters!
Making divorce less painful by having at least 3 months financial resources behind you. When things get heated and you are the one with limited access to money, your other half might get spiteful and withhold support.

If you are thinking about separation or divorce, it might be a good idea to get all your ducks lined up before getting embroiled in any disputes.
If you appointed your spouse or civil partner as your Power of Attorney and then divorce, the POA ends automatically. Worth remembering so you can appoint a new attorney in due course.
Things happen, people change. If you have made a lasting power of attorney but are having second thoughts about the person you appointed, you can cancel it at any time. But you do need to notify the person and the Office of the Public Guardian.
A Power of Attorney is not necessarily granting authority for just ONE person to make financial, property or medical decisions on your behalf. You can arrange for the attorney to be a joint appointment meaning decisions must be made together. Might help your peace of mind.
