It was another great year for our @swimguide program. Our team collected 1,900+ samples for bacteria, turbidity, & algae throughout the watershed over 15 weeks, driving 8,500+ miles!! This year we issued 138 E. coli alerts & our data was viewed by over 557,000 people!

Sampled Mud Creek and #Hanceville WWTP’s wastewater discharge with Outreach Coordinator Katie Holmes and #AmeriCorps Member Mary Allen Murray. We’ve been receiving complaints of dirty water in the creek despite drought conditions. The creek was eutrophic downstream of the WWTP.

Nickajack Creek Park tests came back with skyrocketing bacteria levels, sending CRK teams out in search of a source. Our teams discovered a damaged manhole was spewing sewage and spiking bacteria levels to more than 200 times EPA recommendations for safe water recreation.
