Women in #Herat, now under Taliban control are telling me when they tried to enter the grounds of their University today they were told to go home. Women working in offices also turned away. Schools have been shut down. 60 percent of University students in Herat were women.

Shocking news coming out of Afghanistan: In Herat, Taliban are searching house by house for women who work for the government. In Samangan, the Taliban has cut off the hands of two people who were accused of stealing. Women are not allowed to go out without male chaperones.

I can’t even begin to fathom how terrifying it must be for Afghans back home having to constantly worry whether they’ll even be able to survive w/in the next hour let alone day. their own ppl have failed them & the whole world has turned a blind eye to their pain and suffering

The tragedy unfolding in Afghanistan is not inevitable and we are not powerless. The UK must call for an urgent UN Security Council meeting to coordinate the international response and send a clear message that we will not walk away from the Afghan people
