Asked about what he makes of Sen. Manchin’s comment that CTC should have a work requirement @SherrodBrown tells me “I think that raising children is work.”
Joe Manchin is echoing Republican talking points on the expanded child tax credit. Sen. Bennet spox: Bennet “believes punishing the poorest children in America because their family’s income is too low to qualify them for the CTC is self-defeating” m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_61…
@taragolshan @SherrodBrown Honestly, there is data showing that children from low income communities have better outcomes if their parents are home. And most politicians don’t understand what “work requirements” mean in reality — long commutes, crappy shifts, and not being home.
@taragolshan @SherrodBrown Maybe the response should be: mandate a federal minimum raise to be $15, and we can start negotiating.
@taragolshan @SherrodBrown Well it’s more like a really long game of risk.
@taragolshan @SherrodBrown Raising children is more than enough work for anybody. Besides, somebody has to do the work anyway, be it a mother, a nanny, or a minion at a daycare center; who better than the child's own mother?
