Ford printed a prototype intake manifold in 1988 — four years after SLA existed.
Morning CAD, afternoon in-hand. Factory quiet work: jigs in PETG/nylon/CF. Reported 70-90% tooling cost cuts; weeks → days vs CNC fixtures.

Contour Crafting: gantry-printed concrete (Behrokh Khoshnevis, USC).
Mix laid before the layer below fully cures. Hollow channels: 30-50% less material than solid walls. WAAM: robotic welder, structural steel wire.

A curved concrete wall can cost the same to print as a flat one.
Complexity is not a surcharge. Desktop printers first killed hand-cut foam models: reprint overnight after a morning CAD change.

The gradient is the path, not a stack of layers. Geometry Nodes breaks the lines into dots, and the eye mixes the few filaments already on the tools.
Step back and the face reads as tone. Up close it is still beads. The loose strands by the ears are tool-change ooze, not part of the dot pattern.
@akky_stream That is the INDX part. Each color kept its own nozzle and its own temperature, so the PLA and the PETG never shared one melt.
The letters look locked in because they sit in the face. Those two plastics still do not weld. A letter can look perfect and pop off if you pry it.
@akky_stream The hole came out small because a printed wall cools and pulls inward. Stopping the step drill on the step that just takes the shaft is why it stayed tight.
The orange ring on the knob is what centers it. One more step and that ring would have had nothing to sit on.
Dentistry adopted 3D printing faster than almost any other medical field.
Small parts, intraoral scanners, professional SLA. Guides, crowns, aligner molds. Metal SLS/EBM: patient-specific titanium. Implantables need regulation.

A child's prosthetic that can be reprinted when they grow.
Clinical arms: thousands to tens of thousands; outgrown every 12-18 months. Open parametric hands on consumer FDM: less than a meal; scale in the slicer.

Tree supports vs grid, and the seam blob every outline leaves.
Overhangs steeper than ~45-50 degrees from vertical need something underneath. Trees: less plastic, cleaner snap, heavier compute. Seam = start/stop of each perimeter.

Same printer, same filament, same STL: the slicer still decides strong vs brittle.
Staircase error on curves. Three walls x 0.4 mm ≈ 1.2 mm shell. Gyroid: similar strength all ways. Lightning: looks only. Start at 15% gyroid.

Skip it for now. The Kobra 3 Max already covers the useful work: big parts, no alcohol bath, and the print is basically done when it beeps.
A resin printer is a second machine, for faces, jewelry, and detail a 0.4 mm nozzle cannot hold. The bed is small, the liquid irritates skin and eyes, and every print still needs a wash and a UV cure. You said you are not buying another soon. Stay with the one you have until a part actually needs that detail.
A resin print is not finished when the machine beeps.
Wash (IPA), UV cure, then supports. Extra 15-30 minutes. Fast FDM 300-600 mm/s. MSLA: one layer time, many copies. Filament 15-40 EUR/kg; resin 25-60 plus IPA, FEP.

"3D printing" is two physics: melt-and-draw vs UV-cure a vat.
FDM: nozzle, bed drops in Z. MSLA: plate rises, LCD flashes a whole layer. Resin XY 0.05 mm (50 microns). 0.4 mm FDM nozzle cannot make features much finer than ~0.4 mm.

PLA is not "the best plastic." It softens around 60C.
Corn starch / sugarcane. Easy, low warp. Dashboard in a parked car: no. Print 190-220C, bed 0-60C. PLA+ tougher; silk PLA prettier, often weaker. PETG: ~80C HDT; 230-250C, bed.

The red tray mixes one deep bin with slots of every length, so the small cards and the sticks fight for the same space. The white one separates them: deep pockets for the USB sticks, a shallow row for the little drives, and thin slots the cards can stand in.
That is the part that was awkward. The FreeCAD can stay rough. The notch on the short end is what you reach for when a stick sits down in the pocket.
I'd shoot the PEBA. 90A is softer than the 95A TPU, and on this ball the lattice is what flexes, so that one should give in the hand. The yellow and blue PLA ball is a hard lattice. It goes through the hoop. It does not bounce.
The long part is the support. PVA under the PLA ball is why that one takes 4 days and 10 hours. The TPU finishes first.
