I wrote the same program in both Python and Lua. The Python version uses 2.5megs of RAM and the Lua version uses 160k of RAM and also runs faster. I thought the results were fairly interesting. #programming

After trying a variety of distros and desktops, while I can make Gnome work for me, my favorite desktops are #KDE Plasma, #XFCE, and #Mate, in that order. @kdecommunity @xfceofficial @Mate_Desktop #Linux #computers #technology

I would like to congratulate the @xfceofficial team on their 4.16 release. It brings the two things I wanted most in XFCE: Right-click desktop options on launcher icons and individual folder view settings. Lots of other good stuff too. #Linux #computers #technology

I'm seeing a strange issue with #Fedora #Linux 33 #XFCE. After rebooting, display power management doesn't work until I adjust the settings, even though xfce4-power-manager is running. @fedora @xfceofficial

I see a new release version of #Manjaro is imminent. I wonder if it's going to take care of the issues I've had with the system. If not I might be headed to #Ubuntu Mate 20.10. #Linux #computers #technology

Installing and setting up #Manjaro was quicker and easier than #Fedora. However, the fonts aren't quite as nice and all of the dark themes have something about them that doesn't work quite right. #Linux #computers #technology

My experiment with #Fedora 33 #Linux was short but interesting. Too many fiddly things though, like Audacity crashing every time you close it and things working at first then not working later, like using the NVENC encoder. On to #Manjaro XFCE.

It's interesting how different desktop experiences can be based on the distribution. KDE on Fedora feels quite a bit different than KDE on Manjaro. #Linux #computers #technology

I successfully installed #Fedora #KDE 33 #Linux but it was a lot more fiddly than it should have been. Update servers were extremely slow, fonts are still kind of wonky in Firefox and in general, etc. But it's all set up and working now.

With many #programming languages in order to use LLVM to compile them you have to download a huge blob of files. With D, its LDC LLVM compiler is a nice tidy little package that works great. #dlang

A while ago I wrote a little #Dartlang console program and compiled it using dart2native. Recently I recompiled it using the latest version of dart2native and the resulting executable was both smaller and faster. #programming
