I just popped to a supermarket. In the carpark, there were *three* separate homeless ‘camps’ housing 5 different people. How is this ok in 2024 Britain?💔 I spoke to two of them. One lady told me her hubby had died & eventually she’d found herself on the street. She has a dog which she says is now her “protection” and she apparently can’t get a hostel place unless she gives it up & she can’t bring herself to do that. Another guy told me he’d lost his job (he was a chef) and then things just declined for him. He too has a dog that he can’t give up, he said he loves her too much…so apparently he too can’t get a hostel place. Today is #NationalPetDay and I’ve seen so many people proudly sharing pictures of their pets. It made me sad that loved (and possibly essential) pets can be the reason homeless people can also be declined the basics of a bed for the night 😔 More broadly than that, it makes me so sad to see so many folk on the streets💔
@MichelleDewbs This information is found on the walls of migrant hotels . If only we looked after our own like this .
@terrychelton @MichelleDewbs it is really rubbing our noses in it. HEADS MUST ROLL.
@terrychelton @MichelleDewbs 😠and meanwhile, UK citizens, born and bred, who are in desperate need, can't get any help from the 'system' (and I have experienced this myself -was very close to becoming homeless). Absolutely disgusting that foreign nationals are prioritised over our own people.
@terrychelton @MichelleDewbs And we pay for everything.
