In a country were the price of food is astronomical with the food basket sitting at R5500 more than the minimum wage, why does our government think it's okay to put a premium on everyone over the religious obligations of 1.2% of the population. Children in the Eastern Cape and many parts of this country go hungry and die from starvation because food has become too expensive. Why on earth must you allow for unnecessary premiums? If Muslims want Halaal let them have their own Halaal friendly aisles at Shoprite or have their own Halaal Shoprite. We don't mind. Let them pay the premium. Not the rest of us. We are already struggling and it irks me to no end that am paying a premium for bread over a prayer and rituals to a god I don't know and don't care to know. Worse no one asked me if I want the premium. It was just imposed on me ....it was imposed on every non Muslim (98.8% of us which is a staggering 59.3 million South Africans). Stop this nonsense....the people have spoken.

I think you are missing the point. Halaal attracts a premium and increases the price of food and this is a serious issue we need to raise as we are facing a cost of living crisis. It’s strange to put a “tax” on food to make sure it complies only to a minority of the country.
