There is real power in personal branding. The big problem is people try to invent the person that they'd like to be, rather then being who they are and working out what they stand for. It all unravels very quickly.
Everyone remembers the words in the iPod ad, “A tool for your heart. A thousands songs in your pocket”. But who remembers what the imagery was, or the background colour? Answer: almost no-one. Messaging trumps design. Words trump pictures. Every time.

Many people don’t know the first thing about building their own brand, let alone a strong one. Hiring someone to help you with things like strategy, messaging, and identity design isn’t a ‘trick’ — it may also save months (or years) of guesswork and flip-flopping.
Don't pay someone else to build your brand for you. *Your* audience will smell this trick from afar. Yes, building your brand is hard. But, the rewards are high. Very high. Building a strong brand for yourself is a game you never lose.

@theclearhead Agree with this - also too many people are seeing someone doing well on a platform like LinkedIn and then think they need to copy that person's approach in "personal branding" which of course won't necessarily suit them - this is also exacerbated by those selling bad advice.
