@thegautamkamath I don't really get the issues with this. High schoolers already do tons of research and this won't have any impact on the amount of HS research done. It just shifts where they can submit to and gives them a cool opportunity.
@thegautamkamath Good, but in the vast majority of cases, the kids will be "advised" by their engineer parents or other adults, even researchers in the field.
So, now the race to paper starts as early as high school. So, students will directly delve into to ML / AI. Why bother about calculus, differential equations, Convex Optimization, or anything that requires vigorous studies. This time - many papers and code will be AI generated. Let’s see how NeurIPS gets to verify submissions that are truly written and truly augmented.
