@srihanzyava Oh I love that! I wish there was more artwork from this time frame. I think PGW clothing loosely resembled that of the northern nomads. Uesugi has a great monograph on the Madina site, and there are terracotta statues of horse-riders with pointed hats / heads in the mature phase
@Trokombigremis @GunnyMMA@kvali_app And the famous Yukhagir cattle raids? Yanomami chariot races? These features are neither unique nor ubiquitous. E.g, competitive feasting emerged in highland PNG societies in the absence of grain or cattle - why? That question is more interesting than "everyone does it"
@PJ11819211 His work on Koguryo, although probably also wrong, was pretty impactful. Only in the context of later writing does it become apparent why he felt it necessary to stretch the evidence to connect Japonic to Manchuria and thus the eurasian steppe. But it was a cool idea regardless
@Timurid_Mughal I'm not a critic of Timur as he is a medieval conqueror and of no consequence to my life. Im also well aware of what you say - I did not suggest he sought to revive the Mongol Empire, but rather the Chagataid. I suggest reading this book as it presents the thesis well.
@srihanzyava The armor of this one and your last post on the Heian period seem pretty similar. Are there any changes in this time frame or did they mostly wear the same thing?
@Nimish_2703@avzaagzonunaada@ThatchEffendi The migration of the Yuezhi is historically attested and it took them only thirty years to migrate from the Kansu to Bactria (~130 BC), which was indeed conquered. They then had over a century and a half to iranize in Bactria before being unified by Kujula
@Timurid_Mughal The uzbeks and timurids were both turkic-speaking ruling clans of distant mongolian origin that eventually assimilated into literate persianate culture, so they're not that different at all. just separated in time
@Liaoalap I think the industrial revolution would have curtailed nomadic rule anyway. if anything, the Mongol successor states confirmed the survival of certain turanic groups by removing them into sedentary contexts
@hekwoys Confederate writers were saying this shit over 150 yr ago. That Yankees were Puritan, thus Anglo-Saxon in origin and racially distinct from "norman" southerners
