I got some lungwort from the last Sheffield #plantswap. Very pleased to hear how good they are for bees, I'll have to keep an eye out for hairy footed bees!

Lungwort (Pulmonaria) is starting to flower now. This is one of the best plants to attract Hairy-footed flower bees (Anthophora plumipes) in early spring, the females are black, the males are brown. Bee flies (Bombylius) really like the flowers as well. #pollinators

If you're looking for something new to grow for #pollinators this year, do please consider Wild Mignonette (Reseda lutea). It was stunning last year alongside Nepeta & Cerinthe on our allotment, flowered for months, and was an absolute magnet for short tongued solitary #bees!

What a "Zéro phyto" (no pesticide) town in France can look like. "Weeds" are left to grow and residents are encouraged to sow suitable plants along walls (poppy, sunflower, hollyhock). If pavement plants don't pose safety risks, there is little reason to spray them #morethanweeds

After c.9yrs of growth, the ivy covering this wall was looking good for wildlife. Cue its destruction. Reason? The guys couldn’t confirm any structural/H&S issue-just doing what they’d been told. Shrugged shoulders when I remarked about wildlife value-clearly didn’t care.

Spare a thought for the Bramble Cay melomys, which last year became the first mammal declared extinct due to human-caused #climatechange. Lost forever, on our watch. We should be saying 'never again'. Let's ramp up #climateaction now 🌏

Can't tell you how many gardeners I meet who tell me they don't know their wild flowers which seems such a sad state of affairs. We should all be much more familiar with our native flora. Well done #wildflowerhour

100% YES! I visited the North Yorks coast and the hedgerowed fields were full of chattering life whilst the fences were completely silent. Such a contrast. Such and underappreciated habitat.
