WEAVE's Prime Focus Optics and Spectrograph. On June 23, the new 6-lens, two-degree prime-focus corrector (PFC) arrived at the WHT and on September 11 it saw first light. On August 31, the WEAVE spectrograph was installed in the GHRIL Nasmyth enclosure. ing.iac.es/PR/press/weave…

Excellent news from the @WEAVEMOS project: we’ve installed the prime-focus corrector on the telescope and the spectrograph has been safely delivered and lifted into the GHRIL enclosure*! Exciting times! *sans cryostats and detectors...coming later!

A real beast! It will be the largest telescope in the world! As you can see CAD models and renders improving fast! I only miss our instrument, METIS, from the Nasmyth platform (it will be in the next one for sure)... youtu.be/Sf5MHXqOrck

First light of our mid-IR vortex coronagraph for the NEAR project @ESO. The vortex (in the center) dims alpha Centauri by more than a factor 100, without focal-plane pointing control. Only 3 weeks after another first light on NIRC2 @keckobservatory. Exciting times for us!
