📣PSA: A sped teacher’s job is not to provide accommodations & modifications to students to “help” w/the gen ed curricula. That’s the gen ed Ts job. A sped Ts job is to systematically build a strong foundation & accelerate student progress so they no longer need sped services.
@tiffany_peltier As a special Ed parent, this doesn’t work well. Yes, I want my kiddo to learn needed skills but in the context of what his peers are learning. He’s in a full inclusion school now where there is great collaboration and he is thriving.
@tiffany_peltier I’m going to push back on this a bit as it IS a sped teacher’s job to provide accommodations and modifications as outlined in the IEP. I get what you’re saying and don’t disagree with the statement but we follow the IEP and don’t cherry pick anything from it.
@tiffany_peltier No. My children both have permanent disabilities. Your job is to write and implement the IEP, making sure he has access to his education through accommodations- which is literally helping them achieve their goals.
@tiffany_peltier Oh! I...think I needed this PSA! Is this also true for co-teaching models? The way I've been thinking about co-taught class--in secondary, not sure this translates as well to elem?--is that accoms & mods would be the "specialty" of sped T, in collab w/ content T.
