Column on Pope and gay blessings: "this is my generation’s cross: to be led by old donkeys determined to wreck their inheritance, to bequeath us a ruin and say, with devilish pride, ‘I built this’." spectator.co.uk/article/the-po…
@timothy_stanley What has surprised me a bit is the relative lack of coverage the move has received. Ironically, the papacy has slipped down the newsworthiness list.
@timothy_stanley While my family hasn't been Catholic since Martin Luther asked my g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g grandfather if he could borrow his hammer and some nails, I am dismayed by the fact that the largest Christian Church is no longer Christian.
@timothy_stanley These are our sentiments written profoundly in this piece. I feel sorry for converts who wanted clarity and priests who will have to wade in these muddled waters, no thanks to the Pope and co. I was in Brazil in 2013 with it the infamous "Who am I to judge?" statement. If only
@timothy_stanley I've just read this & profoundly disagree. Synod process is not complete & will be difficult to undo . Hopefully, clericalism is in retreat & facing extinction. All the Catholics I've canvassed more than happy on the blessing front too (I no doubt know some who will be appalled)
@timothy_stanley All the ink that was spilled over "The Francis Effect". The boys of the 60s were one weird and often depraved group of priests.
@timothy_stanley In the end - no idea when that will be - Pope Francis will be declared an antipope and his election null and void by a future pontiff. There is no other way to square his pontificate with the Catholic Faith.
@timothy_stanley So what do you suggest, that someone who is divorced, or gay, should never have their commitment to a loving relationship be blessed. As if all divorcees, or all gay people, are more sinful than others?... That is heresy.
