But something isn't adding up. Basically a suicide mission and these guys were very quick to admit they were paid to carry this out. That doesn't sound like ISIS fanaticism at all. True beleivers would have booked this as a suicide trip and taken as many civilians and security forces with them.
@tracy_walder This shocks me so much that I can’t think of a good question. Or maybe I can. Could this be blowback against Putin because of his aggression in Georgia, Chechnya, and elsewhere?
I agree they will spin it every way possible but I also think this is a huge issue for Putin. The ISIS problem in Russia won’t go away & Putin isn’t in a position to respond. Putin rules by strength & the social contract with the Russian people is that they give up some freedoms so he can stay in power & in return he keeps them safe. With the drone strikes happening inside Russia, with the incursion into Belgorod, & now a horrible terrorist attack Putin has never be seen as weaker. Wagner isn’t available like it once was to go on an offensive against ISIS & pulling any capable units from Ukraine to go after them compromises his positions in Ukraine. He will use this to mobilize but at this point it’s just people with guns, not actual fighters. He seems to be in a really bad spot.
