Promising results from the 2021 controlled crosses in the Eastern Black Walnut (J. nigra) repository at HARC. Breeding targets include increased percent kernel and spur type bearing.

Propagating Chestnut rootstock and collecting scion We are excited to be revitalizing and expanding the chestnut germplasm repository at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry!! Seeds were stratified and germinated from the 2020 harvest.

At Notre Dame with the Romero-Severson lab this week working through some chestnut DNA extractions for EST-SSR marker screenings. DNA markers help us determine the ancestries of the many chestnut we study. This is a vital step needed to inform our 2021 crossing schemes!
