I'm becoming less keen on default values for function parameters nowadays. In general I would rather the caller explicitly set them so that I can see them in context. Also, if the parameter is a flag, then there almost certainly should be separate functions.

I don't mind whether or not people do test driven development for something entirely new. But when it comes to fixing bugs, I find it quite confusing (unprofessional) to claim having fixed a bug if there is no test that exposes the faulty behavior.

As a developer, I sometimes look at my old code. My personal growth (impression of it) is a ratio between the number of errors/mistakes/ideas for improvement and the age of how old is code. For last year, the ratio is very high. 🙂
