🔴🤔 CONNECTICUT: Does Former Meriden Councilman Miguel Castro employ illegal aliens in his own Construction Business? Former Meriden city councilman and former chairman of the Connecticut Hispanic Democratic Caucus, Miguel Castro, (@Chairman_Castro) used his Facebook page to publicly pressure a local fire-protection contractor over unverified allegations. Castro, who owns Prestige Construction (a Meriden-based home-improvement and remodeling firm founded in 2002), posted photos of Innovative Services Inc. vans at a Meriden job site and accused the Tolland company’s employees of calling ICE on Latino coworkers “while working on a construction site.” He described the action as using “company time to target and point out Latino workers” and framed it as “bigotry.” He then urged followers to flood his competitor's company’s phone line demanding answers about corporate policy, called on the site owner to drop the contractor, and invoked the 14th Amendment. The post relies on the words “reportedly” and “allegedly.” No independent news reports, police statements, or ICE confirmations of the specific incident have surfaced. Castro has a well-documented history as a radical leftist immigrant-rights activist. In 2018 he was arrested at a Meriden courthouse protest against an ICE detention; the felony assault against a judicial marshal and riot charges were later dismissed after he did community service. He must have really good connections. That background does not give him license to treat unproven claims as fact or to organize a pressure campaign against a private company. Construction sites in Connecticut, like those nationwide, operate under federal law that requires employers to verify work authorization. Reporting suspected violations to ICE is not, by itself, “weaponizing” the agency or violating anyone’s constitutional rights. Castro’s post collapses that distinction and treats enforcement of immigration statutes as inherently racist. He is a private businessman running a construction company in the same city where the alleged incident occurred. Publicly demanding that another competitor contractor be fired on the basis of hearsay, while offering no evidence, is the behavior of an activist, not a civic leader. If Castro wants equal application of the law, he should apply the same standard to every contractor—including his own—rather than issuing calls to action that rest on “reportedly” and "allegedly."
