Can someone explain to me with rational arguments why Americans prefer iMessage over WhatsApp?
- addiction to blue bubbles - don't need another app - better for business (phone number) - whatsapp is full of scammers, most scammers are from foreign countries using, wait for it, whatsapp - harder to make groups because others don't have whatsapp - depending on the industry telegram is better and faster
There is an actual reason that nobody seems to mention here and it has to do with SMS pricing: - In the late 90s SMS became very popular in Europe and elsewhere while nobody in the US texted - It was also expensive - US mobile operators made it free cause nobody was using it - Then usage exploded in the US - Outside the US it remained expensive - WhatsApp solved the expensive problem outside the US - iMessage gave users a fine experience plus interop with all other phones for free - Hence no strong financial pressure to adopt alternatives in the US - While in the UK texting your Android friend with iMessage wouldn't just yield a green bubble but also cost money
@ulricmusset I use imessage just because I don’t have to download another messaging app on phone & desktop though I still have whatsapp.
@ulricmusset Apple is more trustworthy than Facebook, relatively speaking
