On this day in 1980, Team USA came from behind to top the Soviet Union and captured the second Olympic gold in our country's history two days later. 🥇🇺🇸 Recap, box score & more → bit.ly/37W4VsT
@usahockey This wasn’t the gold medal game. How do you send a tweet like this without doing your homework??
@usahockey Just popped Miracle into the dvd player. Happy 44th Anniversary!
@usahockey @LaVelleNeal Herb Brooks walking back into the tunnel. What an absolute boss!
@usahockey Hard to get people not alive back then to appreciate what a morale boost this was in those dark days after USSR invaded Afghanistan. Sometimes it's not "just a game."
A "Miracle 0n Ice" Today, I have seen a million highlights of the "Miracle on Ice" on its 44th Anniversary and the fond memories of that February 22, 1980, game came rushing back. I was 15 years old working as a busboy in a very busy Italian restaurant. The only television in the place was a 32inch old box television up on a shelf above the long bar. I would sneak peaks of the game as I horridly rushed past the bar to fill water glasses and clear and set tables. The older Italian couple, that owned and ran the place were nice but didn't care at all for someone they were paying to stop to watch a sporting event, any sporting event, even the "Miracle on Ice." But tonight was special, and the owners knew it, as the bar patrons buzzed back and forth about the game and drank way more beer than usual. It was hit and miss for me to see any action most of the game, coming in and out of the kitchen so I didn't catch live most of the scoring plays, but when the game was tied up and the tension was thick the owners, who had busted me sneaking those peaks all night and had scolded me, waived me over to the bar and told me just watch the end of the game and get caught up after the game. So, I saw the Mike Eruzione goal to go up 4 - 3 that turned out to be the game winner. But what I remember most is the celebration of the USA team and the pride and celebration of the patrons in that bar that night and this is what made those "Miracle 0n Ice" memories so special. Where were you?
