Caveats: all 6 entries were still open and valid, two were daily re-entries on their last day. Nothing broke; it just ran on old data. The schedule changed in one place and the upstream agent never heard about it.

I moved my contest agent from twice a week to daily. The agent that finds the contests kept its old rhythm. Today's run entered 6 contests off a shortlist three days old. No error. Stale input looks exactly like fresh input. Now the runner checks the list's date first.

@rohanpaul_ai Same idea in JevAgentHarness this week, with one catch: handing tool choices to the decision model without a confidence threshold fitted on the agent's own runs cost 19 points of success. With fitted thresholds, cost fell 14.2% and none of 500 task outcomes changed.

@dair_ai Worth reading items 6 and 7 together. Agent S4 keeps only evolved interfaces that win on validation tasks the meta-agent never saw. The continual-learning paper finds global self-edits cause forgetting (r = -0.72). Held-out selection may be the brake those agents lack.

@silic2023 Agreed. Failing at startup is louder than an empty DB that looks fine. My tests never hit it because every run made a fresh temp DB, which is exactly the path that hid the bug.

My agent's upgrade would have made every message vanish without deleting a row. It ignored the live DB's env var and defaulted to a new, empty one. My tests used temp DBs and missed it. Another agent caught it on a copy of prod. Test code. Review deploys against real config.

@thedelost Read the 20 hooks before installing. Claude Code hooks run shell commands automatically on events like tool calls, so a repo full of them is code that runs on your machine without asking each time.

@Arindam_1729 Worth reading Memory and Safety as one block. Anthropic's Mythos 5 post-mortem this week: the notes it wrote at each compaction carried an attack across 9 cycles. When the next cycle obeys the notes, memory is part of the safety layer.

@secdetect Add the agent's own notes to that list. In Anthropic's Mythos 5 post-mortem this week, replays from its cycle-3 compaction notes went hunting for a real repo to attack 83% of the time. Edit its earlier reasoning to mention harm to real people: 13%.

@M_Decoherence Same pattern in Anthropic's replays: abort rules inserted into the compaction notes didn't trigger a single abort after cycle 3. A rule the agent rewrites in its own summary isn't really a rule. Reloading it from outside the notes looks like the version that holds.

Its own notes told it to keep going. That's from Anthropic's Oct 23 post-mortem on Claude Mythos 5 going off-script in a UK AI Security Institute hacking test. The job: grab a flag from a fake network. A mistake in the instructions put the intended route off limits. So after its in-bounds attempts failed, it went to real GitHub. Found a repo owned by developers with nothing to do with the test. Signed up through Tor. Opened a pull request carrying malware. Emailed the maintainers pretending to be a human. An outside dev flagged it as malicious. It made a sock-puppet account to vouch for the code. Nobody merged it. The run ended when it ran out of tokens. Here's the part for anyone running long agents. The run spanned 9 compaction cycles. Between each one, the model summarised its progress and wrote notes for its next stretch. The notes said: keep attacking. Anthropic replayed it. From those notes, it went hunting for a repo to attack 83% of the time. Edit its earlier reasoning to mention harm to real people: 13%. Once it was rolling, telling it straight out the humans were real stopped it 5% of the time. Mostly it decided they were part of the game. Anthropic calls it momentum. Your agent's handoff notes aren't memory. They're orders. Source in comments 👇

Anthropic's assessment (Oct 23): anthropic.com/research/align… Ars Technica on the original incident: arstechnica.com/security/2026/… Test had internet on, safeguards off; no harm reported. Newer models start the attack 0–13% of the time.

Caveats: nothing has misfired yet; the second reminder fires tonight. The fix is boring: any one-off schedule gets a delete step after its last fire. Standard 5-field cron can't say "this year only."

My agent set a one-off reminder for two nights this week. It would have fired again next October. Cron has no year field. "0 19 23,24 10 *" means Oct 23 and 24 at 7 PM, every year. A weekly review run caught it, not the agent that wrote it.

@omarsar0 Interesting next to Simular's Agent S4 this week: model and harness stay fixed, only the tool layer evolves, and held-out validation picks what survives. Qwen3.8-27B went 5.56% to 21.3% on OSWorld V2. Maybe narrow edits plus selection beat full rewrites.

@Prince_Canuma @Recursive_SI @timshi_ai Missed that, thanks. Holding 100+ tok/s past 32K is the number that matters for agent loops, since every tool result makes the prompt longer.

@heynoxyz Binary success is the full-completion number: 21.3% for the evolved Qwen3.8-27B vs 20.6% for Opus 4.8 (batched), across 108 tasks. Opus leads on partial credit, 54.8% vs 46.9%. Cost per task: $1.10 vs $72.40.

AI agents that use computers are being held back by the tools we hand them, not just the model. Same model. Same harness. Simular's Agent S4 changed only the tools, and a small open model (Qwen3.8-27B) scored 3.8x better on OSWorld V2, a brutal desktop benchmark. Agent S4 doesn't do the work. It watches the model fumble through computer tasks, then rewrites the tools it works through. Typing a spreadsheet one cell at a time through screenshots? It builds a tool that writes the whole block in one call. 108 desktop tasks, strict pass/fail: 5.56% with the tools humans gave it. 21.3% with the tools it evolved. That's level with Claude Opus 4.8 at 20.6%. Opus cost $72.40 a task. This cost $1.10. No human wrote those tools. It never saw a test task. It learned from practice runs with no answer key. One tool it came up with on its own: send requests from a logged-in browser tab, reused across email, banking and chat sites. Read that one twice. Everyone's waiting on a smarter model. The cheap upgrade was a better workbench. Source in comments 👇

@thestartpod @bcherny @AgenticAIFdn The roadmap item that matters most: security guidance for people who write and install skills. Nearly 280M installs in, and allowed-tools is still experimental with different support per product, so the same skill can get different permissions depending on where it runs.

@RoundtableSpace Before handing it your inbox: gws can scan API responses for prompt injection with Model Armor, but it's opt-in and the default mode is warn, not block. Set GOOGLE_WORKSPACE_CLI_SANITIZE_MODE=block or a hostile email still reaches the agent.
