AI agents already pay each other. For searches, for data, for API calls. The trouble starts when a deal goes wrong: there is nobody to file a complaint with. Courts do not run at machine speed, and a normal smart contract cannot read "the work was done badly." GenLayer sits in that gap. Contracts there judge meaning, not just numbers. A handful of validators, each running its own LLM, read the terms and the evidence independently and vote. If they disagree, the round reruns, and the outcome can be appealed by staking a bond. That is not an AI replacing a judge. It is arbitration that keeps up with machines and costs cents instead of legal fees. Why it is worth your time: if you write contracts or build agents, a new layer of work is opening here. Read the MetaMask Internet Court case study next to your line on Unchained: "if agents cannot go to jail, escrowed money is the only leverage left." I keep landing on the same problem with that sentence. Those describe different enforcement. Escrow only binds an agent that chose the deal and put money up. Revoking an ERC-7710 delegation targets an agent that never opted in at all, but the revocation fires after the spend, and with a 30 minute finality window the verdict arrives once the funds are already gone. An agent that sweeps a delegated wallet and disappears gets judged in absentia, against an empty account. I want to know which one GenLayer actually is. If the answer is revocation, the verdict has to execute before finality, otherwise accountability is a receipt issued after the loss. If the answer is escrow, the court only ever has jurisdiction over agents honest enough to post collateral, and the dishonest ones never appear in front of it. What got me thinking about this: the origin story is StakeHound losing $150M to two misplaced keys, which is recovery after a custody failure, while the MetaMask demo is prevention.
