I'm a mum and watching this killed me. That tiny baby doesn't know about rights, or slogans, or DEI, or having two dads. He just knows a smell that isn't there. A voice that isn't there. A body that fed him for 9 months and then vanished. So he roots. He cries. He's desperate. He turns his face into whoever is holding him, looking for that milk and for the only solace he ever had. And I know that cry, because I answered it once with milk and nourishment and love. All mums know it. But nobody answers him. Instead, he's filmed and laughed at. We wouldn't take a puppy or a kitten off its mum at a just a few days old because we know what that does, and yet it's done to him and this is supposed to be love? Why is human trafficking shuddered at yet this is clapped at? You don't have to be fine with it just because the parents are gay. He's just looking for his mother and all babies deserve one. 💔

Everyone correctly identifies that the decline in socializing is due in part to the lowered cost of entertainment, but that isn't the entire picture. The real purpose of socializing goes far beyond entertainment and is often ephemeral and invisible. In a world before the government safety net, the social network was the difference between life and death. Before dating apps, it was the only mechanism for finding a spouse. Before daycare, it was how children survived. The entire human experience has undergone incremental capture by market forces intent on gobble up every interaction that can be monetized. The relationships that remain are a limp shadow of what came before. The insidiously dark poverty of the modern age is this hollowing out of all human interaction. The facade of friendship remains, but the purpose has been drained away, captured by an unfeeling and indifferent economy. Everything that was once found in each other must now be bought at market rates in transactions that contribute to the GDP. The dinner party has been rendered obsolete. But there is no love dispensed at the therapist's office. There is nothing social about Social Security. And Medicare cannot care about anyone. We are richer than ever before, and yet spiritually sick and socially poor.
