Coolest thing I saw on chain this week was a lender giving a stranger a $35,000 loan at 12% APR using a Patek Phillipe as collateral Borrower sent the watch to an escrow company who then sent back an NFT that represents ownership of the watch Borrower then listed the NFT on Arcade, accepted the best loan offer on it, and then the NFT was transferred to an escrow wallet until the term is up or the borrower repays The only way to get the watch back is by burning the NFT so if the borrower defaults the lender can claim the watch Lender doesn't even have to know the borrowers name, they just have to know that they are the rightful owner of the watch - which is what the NFT does Sure, you can just go get a loan at your local pawnshop, but tapping into global liquidity versus local liquidity will always eventually land you at the best rate (This market is young so we aren't there yet) Just the tip of the iceberg for whats to come for proving ownership of Real World Assets using NFTs

Most of the criticisms I've seen center on the idea that Solana has lower fees and therefore will not flip Ethereum which is securing more value and has higher fee extraction. Higher fees = higher net present value of network...where is the fault in that logic? Utility, not scarcity, drives network value. Imagine thinking dial-up internet was better than broadband because it costs more. Cheaper and faster broadband internet opened up a vast number of use cases and created much more value in the aggregate (less value flowed to extractive network providers and more to apps). When I say Solana can flip Ethereum I am looking at the aggregate ecosystem. My thesis is that blockchains are the settlement layer of the internet. Therefore the question becomes: which blockchain can facilitate most of that flow in a cost-efficient and scaleable manner? It's not mutually exclusive. I think Solana's integrated design is more elegant than a more fragmented L1/L2 environment - that's most important in DeFi but less so in apps that don't require atomic composability. I also think cross-chain integration and interoperability will improve vastly so this debate may be short lived. Finally, dynamic and cheaper fee markets make blockchains more efficient. They open up a real possibility to move much more transfers on-chain at scale (DeFi, gaming, NFTs, and other consumer applications). So I think blockchains that do this have a higher probability of processing much more value on-chain. Higher fees extracted today is myopic. Only a few hobbyists were willing to pay for dial-up. Cheaper internet was necessary for mainstream adoption. The better discussion to be had is on value extraction (where and in what proportion at the different layers of the stack) when most of the world's transfers of value run on blockchains.
