A fun new annual tradition we have here is that every Fall @housleydave teaches a group of smart and eager students at @SusquehannaU, and in 7 weeks they produce a full, real online issue of Barrelhouse. The SECRETS issue is live barrelhousemag.com/onlinelit/2019…

Emma Straub's "Other People We Married" story collection reminded me how much short stories frustrate me. The second I get invested in how compelling and well written the characters are, the story ends. On the other hand, it's a gift to write such vivid characters.

Voice driven pieces are amazing, but voice driven presses are even better! Check out @chelseahannac's "The Billings Brothers at the End of the World." It's the first piece I've read from @splitlipthemag and my favorite (if I had to choose). #SplitLip10k.

I am so glad I discovered @pidgeonholes! They publish works with powerful language and imagery such as "Happiness, Lies, & Reno Rush" by @JulesJustWrite, and "Fast" by @melgoodewriter. Definitely check them out!
