Poll time! Faced with a record low need for storage injections in 2024, in which month will European gas storage reach capacity?
We are looking for a Gas Market Analyst in London, great role, great team and perfect time to look at the gas market in Europe. Please get in touch ... linkedin.com/jobs/view/3341…
As part of its “Energy Prices Bill” the government is due to consult shortly on its intention to introduce a Cost-Plus-Revenue Limit for renewable generators.
GAS CRISIS: Hungary's decision to produce the 0.8 Bcm of cushion gas at the Hajduszoboszlo storage facility may seem short-termist, but Hungary does have a disproportionately big gas storage capacity. Wonder if others in Europe might be looking at cushion gas this winter... #ONGT
Very good illustration (from TotalEnergies) of what lies ahead for the global LNG market as, almost overnight, Europe demands an extra 1/4 of the market. Demand will run well ahead of supply until 2025-26, and high prices will be needed ration, with Asian poor nations priced out
A few high level thoughts about how Europe can deal without Russian gas for the next 2-3 years: Russian natural gas supply to Europe was responsible for 30% of European demand in 2021 (103bcma vs 342). Half of that is replaced by LNG imports (from 51 to 101bcma 2021-2023) 1/6
Ofgem's announcement of the Price cap at £3,549 will be of significant concern to many. We urge for the cap to be reviewed and mechanisms for protecting the most vulnerable be considered as viable alternatives. Our reaction and updated 2023 forecasts: cornwall-insight.com/cornwall-insig…
The list of fertilizer and chemical plants shutting down or rationing in the EU is impressive. With these gas prices, the list will grow. According to @ICISOfficial, around 40% of urea production may have been cut in EU. Despite a possible recession, food prices will increase.
We have released new price cap figures following a wholesale price surge and Ofgem revising their cap methodology. We are predicting a typical household will pay the equivalent of: - £3,582 p/a from Oct - £4,266 p/a from Jan More on our forecasts below: cornwall-insight.com/price-cap-fore…
My mother-in-law asked me “what’s causing the price increase?” over Xmas and “why haven’t we seen lower prices in energy bills?” in April. I have known her for 10Y and she knows my work is energy related but our “how is your work” convo never went beyond my working hours. 😂😂😂
In the UK, we have a good visibility of the increase of our energy costs. It’s right there in the formula. There has been limited political intervention. This will cause unspeakable pain but hopefully also some efforts from households to reduce their energy demand.

Our price cap predictions for Jan 2023 have risen to £3,363 a year for an average consumer, increasing from the £3,003 figure released two weeks ago. Predictions for the Oct cap, have also seen a steep rise, and now sit at £3,244 a year. Read more here: cornwall-insight.com/default-tariff…

On maternity leave for 2024.Amazing how 2 years ago, global LNG demand growth was deemed a certainty by LNG producers and portfolioists due to ABC; before anyone heard of AI and thought it stood for Allen Iverson. Now everyone is certain AI will be a core part of all LNG demand growth. Nice turn. #ONGT
“If you sign up too much #LNG and arbitrage is negative for a couple of years, it's like a very, very expensive pipeline contract. You can get yourself into trouble. The data centers will create a lot more structural demand not subject to, is the arb open, is the arb closed” $EQT

EUROPEAN GAS: Germany making progress with the next wave of floating LNG import facilities. The FSRU at Mukran is in the commissioning phase, while the FSRU for Stade is expected on site in the second half of March. Another FSRU at Wilhelmshaven will bring the total to six. #ONGT
Next week's headline brought to you today: US gas production drops below 2023 levels amid declines in rig counts tied to soft prices. Bullish you ask? Not with inventory coming out of winter at this level. Those of you waiting for the bullish upturn? Exercise patience. #ONGT
Only 1 MW but it’s clever. “The sand can store heat at around 500C for several months, providing a valuable store of cheaper energy during the winter. When needed, the battery discharges the hot air - warming water in the district heating network.”
‘Sand batteries’ could be key breakthrough in storing solar and wind energy year-round Wind+solar produce heat by electric resistance heating. The 500C heat is stored several months until needed in winter, then used in district heating. euronews.com/green/2024/03/… @ChristianOnRE
US storage looks like European storage, but possibly even weaker. Production cuts will take the edge off, as will higher use in power gen. until prices increase. Right now, power sector use is surprisingly weak in this regard even if it's near all time highs for March.#ONGT
After today’s -40 BCF EIA withdrawal, #natgas inventories remain at 5-yr highs, now more than 300 BCF above last year’s 2nd highest & 800 BCF above 2022’s 5-yr minimum. Expect the production decline to begin helping out in the weeks ahead, but there is a lot of ground to make up.

European gas limped out of February at its lowest withdrawal rate since 2014. Current storage has never been this high in early March. Winter risk concerns are gone & we are within one month of European gas injections rather than Asia spot buying setting the marginal price. #ONGT

When @Cedigaz_SG says #LNG demand reached historic levels in Q4, what it’s really saying is that LNG supply reached historic levels and spot prices dropped through the entire period. What does this tell us about the effect of this incremental supply relative to gas demand? #ONGT

Norwegian gas exports have been on a tear since November and lower spot prices does not seem to be diminishing the enthusiasm of producers in January. Flows at 340 and exit nominations consistently over 350 show no signs of relenting. #ONGT @ColumbiaUEnergy
Here’s a piece of gas demand loss that will not be returning unless the EU is willing to reintroduce Russian gas at some point. Even then it still may not make sense. Fertilizer production will chase low cost gas. Not hard to see where it will be migrating #ONGT @ColumbiaUEnergy

One of the few "oh now I get it" experiences you'll ever have is that first ride on an EV bike. It has completely altered my perception of mobility within a 10 mile radius. It's gone from being good exercise to being a faster, more cost effective & efficient way to get somewhere.
2023 has been an excellent year for e-bikes. For self-driving cars ... not so much. In @FastCompany, I wrote about a pivotal year for two mobility innovations now on very different trajectories. fastcompany.com/90994141/why-2…
