I was was absolutely honoured to be invited to officially introduce the very first Dementia Coffee Morning in partnership with @alzheimerssoc at @TheMallLuton this morning, Held on the first Tuesday of each month at @EsquiresCoffee The Mall,
guests can speak to someone who understands - whether they are looking for information about a friend, loved one, neighbour, colleague, or even themselves. Someone who can provide answers & discuss what they might be going through.
This is also a completely free service provided by the charity, for anybody to use. If there was ever any doubt about the value of such events, Alzheimer's Society have provided us with an incredible statistic - 99% of people who attend dementia coffee mornings say that the
experience has provided them with useful information. In addition to this, there are 2,100 people living with dementia in Luton. Think about the chain of impact this can have. One person attends the coffee morning, & the information & advice they receive from that day can then
be passed on to their own families & friends. Dementia can be a scary topic. It is one that still has so much taboo around it. This is a huge step in squashing the stigma, & seeing the coffee morning events advertised is a reminder that nobody is alone in this journey,
& Alzheimer's Society is there to help people make the most of life with dementia, even through the hardest & most frightening times. This is a fantastic service organised by The Mall Luton, who we so frequently see going above & beyond to serve & support their community.
The people of Luton are always getting involved in fantastic events, charity drives, & information pop-ups that are put on at the centre, & these coffee mornings are set to be an invaluable source of comfort & support to them also.
I would like to express my gratitude to the fantastic staff from the Alzheimer's Society for their support with setting up these events. The coffee mornings would be nothing without the support & advice of the experts, providing a friendly ear to visitors in moments of
vulnerability & signposting individuals to ensure that they receive the support they require & deserve. I would also like to thank Esquires Coffee for their support in hosting. It is fantastic to have such a comfortable location to sit & chat,
& a lovely hot drink and tasty treat never goes a miss, ☕️ ☺️ #dementia #Alzheimers #awareness #healthmatters #NotAloneChallenge #coffeemornings #esquirescoffee #charity #luton #community #DeputyMayor #educatingthecommunity
