INTEGRA LIFESCIENCES PRICES $450 MILLION IN NOTES
Integra LifeSciences priced $450 million in senior secured notes due 2033 at a 9.500% coupon on Friday, according to an SEC filing. The medical device maker ($IART) will combine the proceeds with a new credit facility to refinance its existing credit lines, with the deal expected to close October 19. A near-9.5% coupon on secured debt shows borrowing costs are still steep for mid-cap issuers, deal or no deal with the Fed on rate cuts.
USDA LIFTS CORN YIELD ABOVE ALL FORECASTS
USDA raised its 2026 corn yield estimate to 181.2 bushels per acre on Friday, up from 178.5 in September and well above the 177.7 traders had priced in. The move reversed two straight months of downward revisions and caught the market off guard, since analysts were braced for another cut, not an increase. Corn futures ($CORN) sold off on the surprise, as a bigger harvest removes any pressure on prices to ration demand.
OPENAI'S REVENUE GAP RATTLES CHIP STOCKS
OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue run-rate stood near $50 billion at the end of September, well short of the nearly $70 billion some investors had already priced in. The company still says it expects to reach or exceed $70 billion by year-end. Chip stocks absorbed the shock, with a gauge tracked by $SOXX sinking 3.4% on the news. The gap shows how much growth the market is already demanding just to keep pace with AI hype.
RUSSIA AGREES TO SHIP 4.8 MILLION TONS DIESEL
President Trump says Russia agreed to immediately ship over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets, rising to roughly 4.8 million tons in total over the following months. The pledge, made after a call with President Putin, comes as US diesel sits at $6.28 a gallon, up 70% since the war with Iran began. Trump says the new supply will bring diesel prices down "in record numbers," a claim markets, tracked via $USO, have yet to confirm.
CHINA'S GOLD BUYING ACCELERATES TO 3-YEAR HIGH
China's central bank added 21 tonnes of gold to official reserves in September, up from 18.5 tonnes in August and its largest monthly purchase in three years. That streak of consecutive monthly buying has pushed holdings to a record 2,196 tonnes. Gold-tracking funds like $GLD are a direct read on that institutional demand.
DELTA ABSORBS $6 BILLION FUEL COST HIT
Delta Air Lines said fuel costs climbed $6 billion this year, the main drag on its 2026 outlook. The carrier still expects roughly $4.5 billion in pre-tax profit for the full year. Delta ($DAL) is pricing December-quarter fuel at $4.25 a gallon on the forward curve, a level that keeps squeezing margins. Oil's grip on airline profits remains the story heading into year-end.
S&P 500 HITS FRESH RECORD AFTER TWO-MONTH STALL
The S&P 500 touched a fresh intraday record of 7,817.13 points on Tuesday, barely above the 7,816.7 high it set back on August 13 — its first new peak in nearly two months. The tech-heavy Nasdaq outpaced it, climbing 0.59% the same day as megacap and AI-linked stocks led the move. $SPY technically sits at a record, but the broader index spent eight weeks going nowhere while $QQQ kept grinding higher on the AI trade.
AVOLON ORDERS 250 JETS IN BOEING AIRBUS SPLIT
Aircraft lessor Avolon placed its largest-ever order with either planemaker, splitting it between 140 Boeing 737 MAX jets and 110 Airbus aircraft across the A320neo family and A330-900 widebodies. The order lifts Avolon's firm aircraft commitments to 749, still subject to sign-off from Bohai Leasing, the lessor's majority owner, before month-end. Boeing ($BA) picks up the single largest slice of the deal.
US CONSUMER CREDIT HITS RECORD $5.19 TRILLION
Total US consumer credit climbed to a record $5.19 trillion in August, Federal Reserve data show. Non-revolving credit, which covers auto and student loans, pushed to an all-time high of $3.84 trillion. Revolving credit, mostly credit cards, pulled back to $1.35 trillion as households trim balances. Americans ($XLY) keep financing big-ticket purchases even as card spending cools.
BREAKING: EU AND CHINA REACH DEAL ON HYBRIDS AND RARE EARTHS
After two days of talks in Beijing between EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, China's commerce ministry says the two sides reached an understanding on hybrid vehicle trade "in a WTO-compliant manner", without disclosing terms. Beijing also says it is willing to keep fast-tracking export licenses for rare earths and permanent magnets bound for Europe. The 16-point outcome leaves most issues for later talks, set for March 2027. The pressure behind it: the EU runs a deficit of more than €1 billion a day with China, and imports of Chinese plug-in hybrids are up 86% this year.
BANK STOCKS SLIDE WHILE THE S&P SITS NEAR A RECORD
All 10 of the largest US banks are trading below their 2026 highs. Goldman Sachs $GS is down 23% from its July peak and Capital One $COF is down 23% from January, while the KBW Bank Index has lost 12% since mid-August. The S&P 500 closed Thursday just 0.7% below the record it set on October 6. The pressure comes from two places banks are exposed to: the 10-year Treasury yield hit 5.31% on October 5, its highest since May 2002, which cuts the value of the bonds on their books, and office CMBS delinquencies reached 12.16% in September according to Trepp, above the 10.7% peak of the post-2008 cycle.
CANADA SHEDS 68,000 JOBS ON PUBLIC SECTOR CUTS
Canada's economy shed 68,000 jobs in September, pushing the unemployment rate to 6.5%. The entire decline came from the public sector, which cut 70,000 positions for a fourth straight monthly drop -- private employers actually added jobs on net. The miss lands weeks before the Bank of Canada's next rate decision, with the loonie ($FXC) in focus.
@TedPillows BTC back at 83k with DXY green at the same time is the interesting part, those two usually move against each other. If the dollar keeps climbing that level gets tested again
BREAKING: OPENAI AND ANTHROPIC GAME OUT A "DAY AFTER" AI DISASTER
Top executives at OpenAI and Anthropic are privately gaming out how the public and Washington would react to a catastrophic AI event, Axios reports. The scenario they see as most likely is a large cyberattack that knocks out banks, internet access or even power and water, and insiders cited in the report expect a major incident within 6 to 12 months. OpenAI said it runs preparedness exercises and that "these scenarios are not treated as inevitable." Anthropic declined to comment. Much of the planning is about Congress, where the companies expect Democrats to push hard for regulation the moment something goes wrong.

SPAIN LIFTS GROWTH OUTLOOK AS INFLATION SURGES TOO
The Bank of Spain ($EWP) raised its 2026 GDP growth forecast to 2.6%, citing resilient household consumption, while also lifting its inflation outlook to 3.9% for the year on higher energy costs. Public debt is still set to decline, from 98.5% of GDP in 2026 to 96.2% in 2027.
OPENAI SEES $70B RUN RATE BY YEAR-END
OpenAI expects to reach or exceed $70 billion in annualized revenue by the end of 2026, driven mainly by its enterprise business, Bloomberg reports, citing figures shared with investors in talks to raise $30 billion or more at a $1.4 trillion valuation. The same report puts the run rate at roughly $50 billion at the end of September, the number the FT published yesterday, so the gap is the target, not the starting point. Part of the confusion is accounting: OpenAI books only its cut of sales made through partners like $MSFT, while Anthropic counts the gross value of sales via cloud partners. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 0.8% after yesterday's 1.4% drop.
IMF: GLOBAL DEBT HEADED PAST 100% OF GDP
Global public debt is near its highest level since the aftermath of World War II and is on track to soon exceed 100% of GDP, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva warned ahead of the Annual Meetings in Bangkok. She called advanced economies the worst offenders, with some of the heaviest debt loads, and said the gap between interest rates and growth has turned against borrowers after 17 years in their favor. Her prescription for high-debt rich countries: credible medium-term fiscal consolidation plans, partly to take pressure off central banks.
DELTA POSTS RECORD REVENUE AS PROFIT SINKS
Delta Air Lines posted record September-quarter revenue of $20.2 billion, up 21% from a year earlier, as travel demand held strong. GAAP net income sank 47% to $756 million as fuel costs and investment losses hit the bottom line, even though adjusted EPS came in at $1.72. Delta ($DAL) kicks off the airline earnings season with a sharp gap between top-line strength and bottom-line pain.
