This week, design consultants Mark Murphy and Joe Woodcock MBPR FQA are in Miami, Florida to participate in the FIFA Football Turf & Natural Playing Surfaces Test Event 2025. The round robin is an annual event to renew our accreditation with FIFA. Obtaining the accreditation means our equipment and pitch testing expertise has been certified to meet FIFA’s highest standard. We have been retained as a FIFA test institute for many years and look forward to this continuing. That's a wrap! Well…very nearly. The year is drawing to a close and throughout 2024, as a Group, we're reflecting on the work we have carried out this year with our fabulous clients. This weekend, the annual Winter Solstice STRIder run takes place, starting and finishing at our Bingley HQ in St Ives estate. Participants will be embarking on either a 5km or 10km run on the darkest day of the year to raise money for the charity @Sueryder. With spectators tuning in across the world and over half a million attendees making the pilgrimage to The Championships, @Wimbledon every year, the effort required by our team to ensure the grass courts are performing to their highest quality can often be over looked by the public. During the tournament, consistent measurements and readings are carried out by our team, who will provide real time information to the grounds team to assist them in planning their maintenance regimes. For this year’s tournament, the stats are in! ✅ 13,000 clegg (surface hardness) measurements ✅ 56,000 blades of grass counted by sight ✅ 4,250 NDVI (vegetation greenness) measurements ✅ 1,000,000 steps covered by team STRI over two weeks ✅ 13,000 moisture measurements ✅ 4,259 chlorophyll content measurements All data gathered will help to improve sports surfaces year after year, ensuring world-class tennis courts are available for elite players not only in the UK, but across the world.

The Championships, @Wimbledon drew to a close at the weekend, and we're still feeling the buzz surrounding the tournament! Before the final point was scored on Sunday, Sam Swires, Operations Manager for the Research and Development team at STRI Group was interviewed by BBC 4, as part of their series Inside Science where they delve into the dedication it takes to ensure the grass across the courts remains at an elite level. As audiences gather for one of the biggest sporting events in the calendar, The @Wimbledon Championships, we'll be glued to our screens watching the matches unfold over the next few weeks. We've been working alongside the The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club Limited for 30 years, conducting research and providing tournament support to help their expert grounds team to ensure the courts perform to the best possible level. The run up to The Championships sees our team out on the courts, conducting performance monitoring to understand how the surface is performing, providing data to inform their maintenance regimes. Thank you to all the grounds team who work tirelessly ahead of and during the tournament, and wishing the best of luck to all those competing.
