So frustrating when the school don't communicate with me appropriately. Wilf missed part of a lesson today - but no reason given to me by teacher. Turns out he was dysregulated and asked to exit several times but was ignored. Why should I hear it from him.
I have just realised that in 'Picture of You', Boyzone sing 'You will be there'. Not 'Doobidoobidare.' My way is better.

Wilf got into school on time yesterday. The school forgot to mark him present. I got an email to say he was absent. I phoned Wilf - causing his phone to go off in a lesson. He was pulled out of the lesson for just having a phone. It took the school 90 mins to apologise to him.

#WorldBookDay2024 is here and it's fantastic to see such enthusiasm for reading all across the nation. I think it's really important, however, to note that this can be a tough day for SEND kids. Routine is disrupted and expectations are high. Spare a thought for them!

Why are we so interested #SuperTuesday2024? Not just because of the economic and foreign policy ramifications of the next presidency but because the outcome of this election will be a signal for global attitudes, morality and our ability to exist as rational humans.
My son's school have decided that since his needs can't be met in the classroom he will attend for only half a day. When I asked how the timetable could be amended to ensure he continued to make progress I was told that his behavg in the classroom was 'the only focus'.

Staggering and yet sadly unsurprising that when the school thought Wilf was absent today, they messaged immediately to ask where he was. When I called to ask for a meeting it took four weeks to arrange and the the key staff member forgot to come. Presenteeism is not education.
This is right at the heart of the issue. Teachers aren't given the time or effective training to deal with situations in which standard 'discipline' approaches will worsen the situation. Sadly it means that needs are not met and that all pupils suffer when dysregulation occurs.

This sounds simple - but it's critically important. The ability to ground or to hold on to rationality in a state of dysregulation is almost entirely absent. Techniques and responses have to be so engrained as to be as natural as retracting one's hand from a hot surface!

I find stress a major trigger in making my conditions acute. Although it is documented as a contributor to unwellness I find professionals and mainstream society don't take it seriously. It's only after I haven't killed myself or done something bizarre does anyone accept it. 1/5
@Adhdad2024 Just got around to reading this. I think you make really good points. I think if the system was better, curriculum more relevant, assessment more suitable (I like rethinking assessments work on this), then I believe there would be much less need for EHCPs or SEND provision.
Well I'm feeling better this evening than yesterday evening. Even this morning I felt rough. My emotions feel too intense when I'm like that. It makes living absolutely unbearable. Thank you everyone for being so supportive and kind 💜. I'm sorry for being a pain.

@Adhdad2024 It’s one of those experiences I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget, to be honest. Gathering with people from all walks of life in the local park I would run though every morning to mourn, and seeing those same people shoved and pushed to the ground. Still can’t believe it

@warwickmansell I think there needs to be a distinction between elective home educators and home educating out of necessity because parents have been left with no other option. The government needs to decide if they make schools better or help families home edding?
This tale is so familiar and so wrong. What is about children who have additional needs that makes them unworthy of education? why is our ed system so exclusionary? why does it cause so much distress to children and familes who need support?
