According to today’s SA unemployment report for Q4 2002 the economy created 169 000 jobs in the final three months of the year. Which is encouraging given the electricity situation. However, the Western Cape created 167 000 of those jobs

Markets have begun to punish Brazil. It doesn't look that way at first, because $/BRL is stable around 5.20 since the election. But most EM currencies are up versus USD in the past month. Only Argentina's Peso has performed worse than Brazil's Real. A big risk premium is forming.

Since Thursday, 3 November the Rand has strengthened by an impressive 6.5% against the US Dollar. At the same time the dollar has weakened by 4.9% against the Euro. Mostly because financial market participants are less anxious about the outlook for US inflation

IMF revised down their world growth forecast for 2023 to 2.7%, compared with prior estimate of 2.9%. Growth forecast for most countries has been reduced including South Africa. IMF anticipates that SA will grow by only 1.1% in 2023, which is dismal given SA’s population dynamics
