@jasminetdscott I've always wondered if Everlong was (accidentally?) based off Neil Young's Winterlong, that opening line is too close to be a coincidence. I reckon Grohl just forgot where he'd heard it from till too late and was like "ahh who's gonna notice"

@jasminetdscott @dinosauract This just dredged up a memory of someone asking six year old Mike who my favourite muppet was and me immediately going "the cookie monster OBVIOUSLY", making the Worst Faux Pas Possible for a six year old. But I was 100% right and this poll will be my vindication

@becca_m_j Manchester used to see a lot of sea trade through the shipping canal until Liverpool overtook it as the main port city! The whole "rival ports" thing was where a lot of the emnity between the two cities started.

@Italax "Dogger's Lockdown, the seminal work by @Italax, is a cutting satire about the semiotics of space, claiming that the tier system, confusing and underexplained, is not unlike _parole_ itself. See, for example, the use of semantic polyphony in the phrase 'doggy style'..."

@spacealienmp3 @sibylpain It's actually even worse than that- chav started out as an anti-traveller slur, coming from the Romani word "chavi" meaning child.

@phyphor @eytakamou @nick_kapur To be fair, the place is only called Woolwich. Arsenal is named after the royal arsenal which was based there. (This does make me notice that neighbouring Weaponlair is a region called Fowlfenge though, come on you fowls!)

@TomGFootball @GraceOnFootball Having a stable set of key players has helped as well. You can pretty quickly think of a whole roster of Bournemouth players- Wilson, King, Smith, Brooks, Daniels, (formerly) Fraser- but as far as Watford goes it's really just Deeney and maybe Deulofeu.

@NonexistentYuki @HaggardHawks On the flipside seven is considered the divine number in Christianity, which is possibly where the saying originated from. I like the idea of people just one-upping each other until "just" being on cloud seven wasn't good enough any more.

@da5nsy @KMKWrites @Grammarly My theory is that they tried to shorten "every book which wasn't many" by rearranging it into "every (not many) book", in the same way they could fix "every book which was unread" to "every unread book". But it wasn't clued in that "n't many" didn't work the same way.
