Question for UK EY practitioners & SaLT. The last covid lockdown in England ended in March 2021. Children born then are now 3. In terms of language development, how do these post covid children compare with previous cohorts?
@WordAware I think there is still a lot to understand about the importance to communication devpt of a baby being immersed in a busy community - and the embedding of pandemic behaviour - home delivery being just one example. Definitely more pre-verbal 2 year olds.
@WordAware I’m worried about the 2020 babies born in the first lockdown (e.g. April 2020 so turning 4 now) who will be starting school in September. Those that didn’t go to baby groups, didn’t see extended family, adults wearing facemasks. I think there will be a big impact on school entry
