I think you should also stop over assuming what exactly is it that physics restricts. Physics only cares about the net torque. One can come up with asymmetric magnetic arrangement and close enough Cg that generates enough stabilizing torque. It’s not as much as physics, but the internal layout apple chose to prioritize this year. I can assure you even an undergrad mechanical engineering student can come up with (not free of compromises or good but still very real) layout for the same duo internals and its magnetic array that wont make it rotate like that.

Mkbhd in his latest video says how most apps are not optimized for the duo right now and honestly, this one is on apple. This time, apple gave us so less time to update. You couldn’t test out the duo in simulator until like a month ago? Hello? What? And once you start developing

@markgurman Unlike a single device, duo has 6 configs - closed, partially opened, and opened, each portrait or landscape and with weird ui quirks like variable tab bar width. It is definitely not easy to redesign your app to truly take advantage of so many configs effectively. I am sorry

@rsgnl Same with the developer experience trying to design truly unique apps. Granted i am no where close to being even a decent developer but I am trying to redesign my now (pretty dated looking app) for each device and it’s absolutely a chore.

As someone trying to truly develop a tailored app UI, I would say apple is loosing its advantage of easy scaling with the introduction of duo. The insanely weird issues and restrictions of duo (closed, partially open, open, hinge spacing, navbar limits, and so much more), you now have to suddenly optimize your app for a minimum of 10 very different display and UI configs. Get ready for most apps to do either do bare minimum or slowly move towards the most generic design ever.

@stats_feed The post and comment section is full of bad calculations. Firstly, if the bottom half is 4 billion, total is 8 billion giving top 0.001% as 80k people (not fewer than 60k). Secondly, (like another comment claims) it is not 200k per person. It is in fact around 50k per person.
