People use words they don’t understand and it’s dangerous. Actual Christian Nationalism is joining Church and State together. It would mean America would be an elective monarchy, like the Vatican. In America, that would end in forced worship because we have all kinds of different religions. I am a Christian and I don’t want that. Forced worship is antithetical to the basic tenements of Christianity. True Christianity is always about free and personal faith in Christ, not something coerced by the state. Jesus never forced worship—He invited people to follow Him (Matthew 16:24). However, the left has co-opted that word and weaponized it. They use that word to apply to people who correctly say this we were founded as a Christian nation based on Judeo-Christian beliefs. The early United States was deeply influenced by biblical morality, natural law, and a belief in human dignity given by God. To say “we are a Christian nation” can simply mean our moral code and founding ideals were rooted in Christianity: justice, equality, freedom, and responsibility before God. Our founders were deeply influenced by the Old and New Testament. It is precisely because of a Christian understanding of free will and conscience that America guarantees freedom of religion. Scripture shows that faith must be genuine, not coerced (Joshua 24:15, John 4:23). Our founders built on that truth: true Christianity allows space for others to worship freely, because forced worship is no worship at all. Publicly identifying as Christian, whether as individuals, communities, or even as a nation acknowledging heritage, does not automatically mean establishing a state church or compelling worship. It means living openly by the moral code that shaped us, while respecting others’ freedom to differ. Actual Christian Nationalism would be the end of America. We should all be against it. There are people on both sides who purposefully misuse that term. It’s incumbent on all of us to understand that we don’t actually want Christian nationalism. But it just doesn’t mean what the left says it means.
