Clarion call for action from @UNICEF on child poverty, where UK shows the largest increase of the countries considered between 2012-14 and 2019-21. I have slight quibbles* with some of their methodology so here's my version of one of their charts. UK still bottom of league. 1/5
Poverty impacts children from the moment they are born which is why we launched our campaign for a #BabyAndToddlerGuarantee. It is crucial that governments invest early to provide a range of support to mitigate the impacts of poverty on babies and young children.
When governments choose to target financial support at children, it works. That's why UNICEF UK is calling on the UK Gov to take urgent steps to protect the nation’s children from the risks posed by poverty – by scrapping the two-child policy limit and removing the benefits cap.
