The #Myanmar Humanitarian Response Plan 2024 remains critically underfunded. Just 6.3% of the $993.5 million secured. Education = 1.5% of its needed funding for 2024. Health = 3.1%. Food Security = 1.2%. WASH = 9.4% fts.unocha.org/plans/1160/clu…
So incredibly proud of my old newsroom and the work Frontier's journalists are tirelessly doing to document crisis after crisis in Myanmar

The Myanmar coup underestimated the protesters. After 3 years, resistance groups control larger areas of the nation. No one knows the future, but civilian decentralized resistance against one of the world’s most powerful military forces, is truly impressive. Source: @nytimes.

We're excited to announce the literary champions of the week! Congratulations to Ed Smith (@rocketandsquash) on his new release 'Good Eggs', our top-selling title to kick off the month. See here: hive.co.uk/books/bestsell…📚 #bestsellingbooks #bookrecommendation #BooksWorthReading

Me too Oliver!
@Clarammond Can’t wait to read this!
Excited to see the jacket of @Clarammond's book, On the Shadow Tracks, A Journey through Occupied #Myanmar. Not had the pleasure of reading it yet but have heard VERY good things. Out in June and available at the link below: penguin.co.uk/books/455020/o…
@BenedictDunant @Clarammond 5 1/2 years since we had lunch together and I have thought about this book idea on more than one occasion since. Can't wait to read it!
I was lucky to have an early peek of this book by ex Frontier colleague @Clarammond and it's brilliant. Framed as an offbeat travelogue, but at heart an expose of the cruelty and corruption of military rule and an argument for why Myanmar deserves better. penguin.co.uk/books/455020/o…
📣 We're hiring an investigator for our Transition Minerals campaign! Come help us champion an equitable energy transition by exposing the inequities present in mineral extraction for the global energy transition. DEADLINE: 6th December gwitness.org/3SSYEJl
Outstanding investigation by @Clarammond, @BenAyre & @malulamcl into how a region in Myanmar has become the world's largest supplier of rare earth minerals. Succinct writing, great visuals, on-the-ground reporting and they commissioned a bloody satellite! globalwitness.org/en/campaigns/n…
A must read on how the global green revolution is fueled by rare earth metals in militia territory in Kachin State globalwitness.org/en/campaigns/n…
Chinese companies doing business with corrupt junta-backed militias in Myanmar’s border areas produce lots of bad outcomes for the country. This excellent @Global_Witness report highlights one important example - rare earth mining in Kachin.

1/ -Short 🧵. Stories like these, highlighting the tremendous courage of everyday villagers, clearing landmines w/ no formal training & gear are exceedingly common in Myanmar. But why? Why do these people have to take such tremendous risks w/out adequate support?
A hero, who has cleared 100 landmines planted by the junta regime force for the safety of villagers in Kayah state, vows to continue his mission of clearing the landmines even though he is not paid for what he is doing for all villagers. Mr. Phu Zaw, who spoke to FFM media,…

Good points made by @TMclaughlin3 and @ZachAbuza - properly understood, there is no macroeconomy in Myanmar anymore, but simply disparate streams of revenue and other resources the SAC seeks to access. The SAC’s economic policy making is little more than organised crime.
Again, per a former high ranking Myanmar official, it is necessary to adjust what economic success for the junta means or looks like. It has been three years, and some difficulty for them, but they plodded along for decades previously with a far less internationalized economy.

Honoured to be a finalist for the @LivingstonAward for our @washingtonpost work on #Myanmar, which includes the following front page story. Huge recognition as the globe must keep an eye on #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar as human rights atrocities in the country look to be ongoing.

First time reading, “Burmese Looking Glass,” by @EdithMirante. An enthralling account of Edith’s travels and conversations in Myanmar and Thailand.
