I see that some have disagreed with my view. One must take note that TVK had to field these two candidates because of political compulsions. With such weak candidates, DMK should have easily pocketed Madurantakam and it should have been a cake walk for AIADMK in Dharapuram. After the general elections, DMK cited its failure to identify the real adversary as the reason for the loss. This time it had no such excuse and the canvas was much smaller too. Just two out of 234 constituencies. DMK found its real adversary, attacked it as much as possible, used every other ammunition available in its artillery, made almost all top leaders campaign for its candidates and yet lost the bypolls. This is the same case with AIADMK too. If the two Dravidian parties couldn't manage to defeat even the weakest of candidates fielded by TVK and if one man is standing in their way, the message from the people is loud and clear.
TVK had the maximum number of disadvantages in the byelections with the choice of candidates itself being reason enough to lose the polls. Yet, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has single handedly turned the tide in his party's favour through his extensive campaign.
