@residentreformr Ah another self appointed gatekeeper of Christianity. You have no more authority to say who is Christian or not than I do. Nobody cares who you think are Christian.
@oelma__ Since when do you see your ticket after youve signed it? You don't, you would never have seen such comments.
@susancolvin333 It's hilarious that you think this is an own. We would love ICE to come to our neighborhoods.
@strider434 @Lets_Talk_HC Oh thank goodness, I was getting pretty tired doing everyone's work. 😂
@strider434 @Lets_Talk_HC No, I have a life and work, so I can't always respond immediately. If Dr White has read the BoM, then good for him. That's far more than most critics and I will give him credit for that.
@strider434 @Lets_Talk_HC Do you have any evidence where he has claimed to have read the BoM in its entirety?
@jaredadairbell Clearly she wasn't paying attention to it as President Christopherson clearly existed painted how and why it is sin.
@cgibson724 @travelingflying No, she prefers yours
@MarkL8888 @travelingflying Death is separation of our spirit from our body. The spirit continues on and has conchesness. Eventually because of Jesus, they will be reunited permanently in resurrection.
@Jake_7777_ @travelingflying What was the very last charge Jesus gave his apostles when he ascended into heaven? Why would he have them do a mere religious rite? He didn't tell them to have everyone say the sinners prayer.
Critic: Joseph Smith was a false prophet. LDS: Okay. How did you determine that? Critic: Jesus said, “By their fruits ye shall know them.” LDS: Fair enough. So let’s examine the fruit. Critic: We don’t need to. The tree was corrupt. LDS: I thought the fruit was how we determined whether the tree was corrupt. Critic: It is. LDS: Great. So let’s examine it. Critic: Fine. Plural marriage. LDS: That’s something Joseph instituted. What fruit did it produce? Critic: Plural marriage is the fruit. LDS: Why? Critic: Because it’s bad. LDS: So you’ve already determined the thing Joseph taught was bad, and that determination becomes evidence that Joseph was bad? Critic: Obviously. LDS: What about the JST? Critic: Bad fruit. LDS: What fruit did it produce? Critic: The JST. LDS: That's the thing he produced. What were its effects? Critic: Doesn't matter. He altered the Bible. LDS: So the reason it's bad fruit is that your theology says Joseph wasn't authorized to do it? Critic: Yes. LDS: And Joseph wasn't authorized because he was a false prophet? Critic: Correct. LDS: And we know he was a false prophet because the JST was bad fruit? Critic: Now you're getting it. LDS: Apparently. Critic: And then there's the Book of Abraham. LDS: Okay. Have you read it? Critic: I don't need to. LDS: Then how are you evaluating its fruit? Critic: It's false scripture. LDS: That's your conclusion about its truth claims. I'm asking what it produces in people who read and believe it. Critic: Nothing good can come from false scripture. LDS: So again, we're determining the fruit from your prior judgment of the tree rather than determining the tree from its fruit. Critic: You're overcomplicating this. LDS: Apparently Jesus's horticulture is more complicated than I realized. Critic: And the Book of Mormon is the most obvious bad fruit of all. LDS: Excellent. Let's examine that one. Critic: There's nothing to examine. It's false. LDS: Have you read it? Critic: No. LDS: None of it? Critic: I've seen enough verses online. LDS: Have you read it cover to cover? Critic: Why would I waste my time reading a book written by a false prophet? LDS: Because you just told me to judge the prophet by what he produced. Critic: I already know what he produced is bad. LDS: How? Critic: Because he was a false prophet. LDS: We appear to have returned to the beginning. Critic: The Book of Mormon teaches a different Jesus. LDS: Interesting. What does it teach about Jesus? Critic: I'm not reading it. LDS: Then how do you know? Critic: Pastors and scholars have documented this. LDS: But you haven't actually examined the thing you're calling bad fruit? Critic: I don't need to drink poison to know it's poisonous. LDS: True. Critic: Exactly. LDS: But presumably somebody had to establish that it was poison before putting the skull and crossbones on the bottle. Critic: People have. LDS: Okay. Let's independently examine their reasons. Critic: Why are you so desperate for me to read your book? LDS: I'm not. I'm trying to understand your fruit test. You told me Joseph is a bad tree because he produces bad fruit. Then you told me you won't examine one of the largest things he produced because you've already determined he's a bad tree. Critic: Because false prophets produce bad fruit. LDS: Right. So let's look at what believing the Book of Mormon actually produces. Does it teach people to worship Jesus Christ? Critic: The wrong Jesus. LDS: Does it tell people to repent? Critic: False repentance doesn't save you. LDS: Does it teach prayer? Critic: To a false God. LDS: Charity? Critic: Doesn't matter. LDS: Forgiveness? Critic: Doesn't matter. LDS: Loving your enemies? Critic: Doesn't matter. LDS: Serving the poor? Critic: Doesn't matter. LDS: Keeping God's commandments? Critic: Works righteousness. LDS: Sexual morality? Critic: Still a false religion. LDS: Humility? Critic: Still false. LDS: Faith in Christ? Critic: Wrong Christ. LDS: Becoming more Christlike? Critic: You can't become Christlike by following a false Christ. LDS: So is there anything the Book of Mormon could produce that you would consider good fruit? Critic: No. LDS: Why? Critic: Because the tree is bad. LDS: There it is again. Critic: What? LDS: You're not using the fruit to evaluate the tree. You're using your evaluation of the tree to decide beforehand whether its fruit is allowed to be good. Critic: Because Satan can counterfeit good things. LDS: Okay. Then let's broaden the sample. Joseph Smith's religious movement has existed for nearly two centuries. What about feeding hungry people? Critic: Other churches do that. LDS: Of course. Is it good fruit? Critic: It doesn't prove Mormonism is true. LDS: I didn't ask whether it proves Mormonism true. I asked whether feeding hungry people is good fruit. Critic: Sure. LDS: Disaster relief? Critic: Good, but irrelevant. LDS: Caring for widows? Critic: Good, but irrelevant. LDS: Missionaries encouraging people to pray? Critic: They're spreading Mormonism. LDS: Families reading scripture together? Critic: Mormon scripture. LDS: They read the Bible too. Critic: Wrong interpretation. LDS: Helping refugees? Critic: Lots of organizations do that. LDS: Absolutely. Is it good? Critic: Sure. LDS: Addiction recovery? Critic: Doesn't prove anything. LDS: Again, I'm not asking whether it proves anything. Critic: Then what's your point? LDS: You told me there was no fruit worthy of consideration. Now every time we encounter something obviously good, you change the standard from: “Is this good fruit?” to: “Does this single-handedly prove Mormonism true?” Those are completely different questions. Critic: Good works don't make a false religion true. LDS: AGREED. Critic: … LDS: Seriously. Completely agreed. Feeding hungry people doesn't prove Joseph Smith was a prophet. Disaster relief doesn't prove the First Vision happened. Strong families don't prove the Book of Mormon is ancient. Missionary service doesn't prove priesthood authority. I never claimed otherwise. Critic: Then why are we discussing any of this? LDS: Because you invoked Jesus's fruit test. If fruit is evidence by which a tree can be evaluated, we have to actually examine the fruit. Good fruit doesn't automatically prove the tree true. Bad fruit doesn't automatically settle every question either. We examine all of it. Critic: Joseph still did terrible things. LDS: Great. Present them. Let's examine the historical evidence. Let's examine plural marriage and its consequences. Let's examine Kirtland. Let's examine Nauvoo. Let's examine his revelations. Let's examine his teachings. Let's examine the Book of Mormon. Let's examine what happened to the people who followed him. Let's examine what his movement became. Let's examine nearly 200 years of results. Good fruit. Bad fruit. Complicated fruit. All of it. Critic: I don't need to do all that. I already know Joseph was a false prophet. LDS: Then that's fine. But stop telling me you arrived there by examining his fruit. You arrived at your conclusion first. Then you decided what was allowed to count as fruit. Critic: The Book of Mormon itself is bad fruit. LDS: Have you read it? Critic: We've been over this. LDS: Right. You won't read it because it's bad fruit. It's bad fruit because it came from a bad tree. And you know it's a bad tree because of its bad fruit. Which you won't examine. Critic: Correct. LDS: Funny enough, the Book of Mormon anticipated this conversation. Critic: Here we go. LDS: Alma doesn't say: “Here is a seed. I declare it good. Therefore believe me.” He says to experiment upon the word. Give the seed a place. Plant it. Nourish it. Observe what happens. Does it grow? Does it enlarge your soul? Does it enlighten your understanding? Does it become desirable? Keep nourishing it and eventually judge the tree by what it produces. Critic: I'm not planting a satanic seed. LDS: How did you determine the seed is satanic? Critic: Look at the tree. LDS: How did you determine the tree is bad? Critic: Look at the fruit. LDS: Can we examine the fruit? Critic: Absolutely not. LDS: Why? Critic: IT CAME FROM A BAD TREE. LDS: 😂 Okay. So we're standing outside an orchard you've never entered… refusing to plant a seed you've never tested… from a book you won't read… because you've already determined the tree is corrupt… based upon fruit you've decided beforehand cannot possibly be good. And somehow this is being presented as: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” I'm beginning to think the problem isn't the orchard.
@Primary_Pianist It's essentially a straw man they built up. A tactic (or lie) used when one has no real argument.
@Lets_Talk_HC Well you can't lose your salvation unless you touch a book of mormon, then it's to hell with you.
@MysonKay @j_divis @farmingandJesus Define th gospel Paul was speaking of.
@SamuelMelton5 Go to the church website or any church publication. Count the number of time Joseph Smith is mentioned and count the number of time Jesus Christ is mentioned. Jesus will be mentioned vastly more than Joseph Smith is mentioned, so stop telling lies
