Are berries effective for weight loss and metabolic health? And what about other foods with berries in them? With our satiety scoring we combine all key nutritional factors into one 0 - 100 scale. Yesterday, I shared a guide to fruits. Berries score slightly higher than most fruit, especially raspberries (57), strawberries (63), and blackberries (66). There are many foods with berries in them, many of them scoring quite low. Examples include blueberry muffins (0) and strawberry ice cream (19). A bit higher scores can be had from acai bowls (38), oatmeal with blueberries (39), or berry yogurts (about 41). For a real superstar satiety score, try berries in non-fat Greek yogurt (78). Anything with non-fat Greek yogurt is a satiety cheat code, as it is super nutritious and high in protein with very few calories. What's your favorite way to eat berries? @DrEenfeldt Enjoy with FULL FAT plain greek yogurt.
@DrEenfeldt I have non-fat Greek yogurt with berries & I actually prefer to add-in some fat for greater enjoyment. This comes in the form of small amounts of finely chopped 100% dark chocolate, seeds & chopped nuts (I have a jar of pre-chopped nuts). Nice crunch/texture.
@DrEenfeldt Berries and greek yogurt is an elite combo. Especially if you use frozen berries, partially defrost them in the microwave for a few seconds and then add the yogurt…delicious.
Non-fat yoghurt tastes exactly as one would imagine - like dirt! I believe it's a good general rule to avoid eating things that taste like dirt. Although I'm not familiar with the satiety score of 0.5% yogurt, I would assume that choosing it over fat-free yogurt would be a decision you wouldn't regret on your deathbed.
@DrEenfeldt Looks like satiety is correlated with protein & fibre.
@DrEenfeldt Yes, berries can be _part of_ an effective plan for weight loss and metabolic health. They are, as a food, interdependent on what other foods are eaten (and how much) with regards to weight loss and metabolic health.
