Im kind of amazed at the way some people are personally attacking me over the Magic post, lol. It's like admitting you don't know how addiction works, and it says a lot about someone when they're go-to is to be judgmental instead of trying to understand them.

@DynamoNestico It directly led me to a career I love and gave me tons of great memories and relationships, both platonic and otherwise. I’m glad I’ve moved on but I don’t consider the time wasted. I could tell it would be addictive, so I waited until I got my degree before I started playing. :)

met some of my best cis friends in college bc of magic and got integrated into a wonderful group of trans femmes rn bc of magic so not only has magic wasted 0% of my life, i would posit that it actually enriched it significantly

@DynamoNestico I’m gonna be honest with you, magic saved my life. In all my years of searching for something to help calm my anxieties and help me relax, magic is the only thing that works that isn’t a drug. I got to fmn after working 6 straight days and it calms me and is the perfect self care

@DynamoNestico This is a difficult question to answer because it’s hard to imagine what I would have been doing differently. When I was playing magic I was *only* playing magic. I don’t know if I would have had something better if I never started magic
@DynamoNestico My first day I played Magic in a store, I was surprised it cost $10 to attend. (I was previously a PC gamer of a free game) Then someone in the line said: all hobbies cost something. Its either money or time. From there I lost 12 years of fun to this hobby
Zero. So many good things came out of playing Magic, including learning the importance of good communication, and having that translate to learning how to communicate well with my partners.

I personally would not be where i am today without magic. It got me out of some bad things i was in. It helped me focus on how to collaborate with people and become more disciplined. I developed an addiction at one point but I don't believe it was a waste of time personally.

I have three goals in life (that I think should be core goals for all): 1) Plant more flowers than I step on 2) Care for others (especially those I love) 3) Find peace in the chaos and hold it tight. Magic the gathering doesn’t hamper 1) or 2) and enables 3). So 0%.

To quote Bertrand Russell, “The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” I’ve spent a lot of time with this game and within the varying layers of this sphere. I’ve enjoyed each moment presented to me and look forward to each moment thereafter. Great question!

@DynamoNestico There are some days, maybe 1 of out a month, where I drive to the store only to not have enough people show up to launch FNM/a draft, so I drive home. ~2% there. Then, lots of other things I don’t do at night because I’m watching @CalebDMTG stream. ~3% there, so ~5% total.

Magic has been a part of my life for 29 years. I’ve made buying and selling trading cards my business. It’s had extreme high highs and crushing lows but i honestly couldn’t picture my life without it.
