Controversial opinion: Primary school writing should be about developing a love for writing. A desire to write. It should be where creativity is celebrated and enjoyed. A lot of the SPaG stuff can wait.
@MrZachG IMHO: Pre-testing prior to teaching a unit of work then doing the same post-test is a time waster. We should be harnessing alternative ways to capture data in the moment that’s right in front of us, and then use this to inform next steps for learning for all, some or few. 🤔🤔🤔

What if we flipped the narrative on its head and considered whether direct instruction can actually contribute to cognitive load? What if the answer isn't for us to strip out all the 'extraneous' load but to give children more agency to manage it? 🤷♀️

My daughter is autistic. When she was 9 she was very cautious about food. The list of things she could eat was small and we fought to keep it from getting smaller. Today she's 19 and I took her out for a curry in a restaurant to celebrate her first week in an internship. #Autism
