Fourground is the AI receptionist for service pros — 24/7 call answering and follow-up, so a missed call never costs you the job.fourgroundai.com/receptionist Ottawa, OntarioJoined October 2026
@noahiglerSEO that 80–90% rate is the real story imo. Most shops would kill for it, but it usually lives in one or two techs heads. Curious if he tracks it per tech? In our experience, the conversion gap between techs is bigger than the gap between ad campaigns.
The CSR-guessed lead source is the one that hurts most. "How'd you hear about us?" at 7pm on a no-heat call gets you "Google" every time. Tagging the source from the call itself, then matching the sold job back to it, fixes half of this without touching the CRM.
in my experience you have to be able to see and track what goes on between and behind calls, and a level up is owning that layer as well.
2. Set a callback target, like within the hour during business hours.
Then actually check how close you get. Most of us guess faster than we really are.
(This data will help u close that gap)
You can't answer the phone from a roof. You shouldn't try either lol
Here's how to make sure missed calls still turn into jobs, without hiring anyone or falling off someone’s bungalow:
@TimFlynnLeary Agreed. Owners don't lose jobs because they can't find a tech. They lose them in the gaps: the call nobody returned, the customer who never got an ETA, the estimate nobody followed up on.
Software can close those gaps. Accountability still belongs to the crew lead.
Voicemail isn't a backup plan. Let’s be real.
Go through last month's missed calls and count how many left a message. That's how many people were willing to wait for you.
I'm building a phone answering product for contractors. It's called The Front Desk. (Original, I know)
First rule I set: it never guesses a price and never promises a truck. It takes the details and gets the job to you.
Since Oct 1, Google can charge you for a call you didn't answer.
Run Local Services Ads? If a caller waits 20+ seconds during business hours and nobody picks up, you can pay for that lead. And you still lose the job.
Everyone quotes the "call back in 5 minutes" rule.
The study behind it is from 2021 and covers every industry, not just trades. So it's not gospel.
Still, time your own callbacks this week. You might not like the number.
