Alright Stephen King fans, I’ve decided to give the man a shot this year. Drop some recommendations for a King novice like me.
@IAmSimpleReads I started reading King about two years ago these are the books I’ve read so far and how I ranked them:
@IAmSimpleReads I'd start with Pet Cemetary or Salems's Lot for horror, or with The Talisman for fantasy-horror. I read the latter as my first King book in the 90ies, and I absolutely loved it.
@IAmSimpleReads I think The Shining is a good entry point. My fave King books are extremely, intimidatingly long (The Stand, Under the Dome) but The Shining and Misery are both manageable and his craft is excellent in both imo
@IAmSimpleReads I started with Salem’s Lot. I’d recommend that, Carrie or Pet Cemetery for starters. You could also read some of his short stories to start with.
@IAmSimpleReads Not going to be a popular answer, but I would put Bag of Bones on your list.
@IAmSimpleReads Start at the beginning: Night Shift
@IAmSimpleReads I would start with story collections: Night Shift, Different Seasons, Skeleton Crew. These all have stories that were expanded into movies you will recognize, but many that weren't that stuck with me. From there I like It and Misery. Also perhaps a dark horse: Dolores Claiborne.
