@soncharm@The_EconoMissed@xwanyex She had tangible impact on policy, which you and others have been arguing she didn't.
I'd rather my side learned how to be as effective as she has been, without being bogged down by her delusional ideology - sue me.
@soncharm@The_EconoMissed@xwanyex Getting your org's policy ideas onto the table of politicians via mass movement and then getting invited to consult on the final draft of the law being written up is not the same as doing a "good word doc". I think her policies will have the opposite of intended effects tho, bad
@soncharm@The_EconoMissed@xwanyex Built the "Upstate-Downstate Housing Alliance" (2017). Drafted "9-Point Policy Platform" -> landlord loopholes. Led 2,500+ volunteers for rallies and lobbying. Consultant for Senate Democratic working group on bill text. Developed NY legislative strategy for eviction protections.
@soncharm@xwanyex I mean if someone gave that example in a job interview then there would be something to talk about. There are skills there, and there's a non-zero chance they would survive scrutiny.
@The_EconoMissed@soncharm@xwanyex Eh you'd have to read the bill. Americans see some stuff as communist that others don't. I'm not supporting a bill I didn't read. The question is whether she had achieved something and it looks like she contributed to political change as a lobby group without loads of money.
@soncharm@xwanyex Grassroots organizing, lobbying, and public pressure.
It was her job. She's widely seen as having been effective in supporting the legislation to get passed, I don't think anyone denies that.
Being good at that job isn't nothing. It's just not the same as causing good outcomes.
@soncharm@xwanyex Cea Weaver (organizer and coordinator for Housing Justice for All) pushed the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (often abbreviated as HSTPA).
It impeded landlords trying to remove properties from rent stabilisation policies and added tenant protections.
Taiwan spent $600 billion to discover what has been obvious for a very long time:
Childcare subsidies are almost uniquely ineffective at boosting fertility in societies where work demands are not capped or restrained in some way.

Below is as good an explanation as I've heard, at a level meaningful to an actual patient (versus to advocates or critics of one or another diagnostic systems, who have different agenda). Explained like this, use of the specific term “borderline” (or any other term that replaces it) becomes more or less an irrelevancy.
The is quoted from @arodriguezpsyd, here: x.com/arodriguezpsyd…
“Diagnosis as a term does not belong to the DSM. Rather, it is about identifying the nature of illness. After all the processing & blah blah blah, in those times in which I do offer a diagnosis, I don’t really ever say to a pt, you have borderline (etc)
I may say, “I think that you frequently don’t feel ‘whole,’ as if something is missing. It seems to pull you toward being with others, but that feels dangerous because either they get too close and you feel suffocated, or they feel too far away and you feel abandoned.
In those moments, I think you feel overwhelming panic and don’t know what to do. It can lead you to see people as either completely good or completely bad, sometimes from moment to moment. I think you’re trying desperately to find a way to feel whole and okay with or without another and it’s exhausting and painful and upsetting and makes you feel unstable.” This is just an example. It would be very individually tailored.”
Today, most Americans have no idea how their tax dollars are spent. For example, 91 percent do not know that Social Security benefits can reach over $60,000 per person.
They have no idea that a senior household can collect nearly $117,000 a year just from Social Security. And if you tell people that Medicare programs cover golf balls, greens fees, social clubs, ski trips, and horseback riding, they stare in disbelief.
This generational injustice is compounded at least four times over:
1. Government taxes the young and transfers their wealth to seniors.
2. Government borrows even more to transfer more wealth to seniors.
3. Government debt causes inflation and slows economic growth, eating away at young people’s incomes their entire lives.
4. Government taxes young people again to pay for the debt incurred to pay for senior entitlements.

@lymanstoneky Most likely this is saber rattling that the new Syrian government will strongly welcome as they seek to implement their March 2025 integration plan, dissolving the separate militias that formed the SDF to make a single United Syrian army. Turkey want that too.
@DoctorPerin The loss of third spaces, particularly church and volunteer organisations, resulted in a unique social problem. It became difficult to casually meet people repeatedly by accident or without intending to. Instead, socialising has to be scheduled and planned. That's not community.
"If your policy selects educated professionals, screens them for criminal histories, and makes any serious offense grounds for deportation, you should expect very low crime rates among immigrants. If your policy strands young men with no legal way to work, in marginalized neighborhoods, with little support and weak enforcement, you should expect more crime. Both of these systems can be called 'immigration.' Neither tells you what 'immigration' as such does."
Tomorrow's post will be my hottest and nerdiest take yet:
Abstract concepts like "inequality," "diversity," and even "immigration" aren't tangible things that have identifiable true effects in the real world. Policies do.

Shame is a powerful emotion rooted in secrecy, often making us feel damaged and unworthy. Its impact spans psychological, neurocognitive, sociocultural and institutional domains. At @TheBJPsych editorial (doi.org/10.1192/bjp.20…), we reframe harmful shame as a health target requiring specific interventions. @ProfLawlor@SandraBez9@nanosanta
