Teaching children to hate their heritage is abuse. There’s a disturbing phenomenon of forcing Germans and white people writ large to feel ashamed of who they are and their heritage. How can a society flourish when its people are taught to hate themselves? My own Korean ancestors committed terrible acts, including persecuting and killing Christians, but that doesn’t mean I should spend my life apologizing for crimes I never committed. I can acknowledge the wrongs of the past while still taking pride in my people, honoring my heritage, and celebrating what my ancestors built.
