@asymmetricinfo @neipate96 Far from gutted. Yes there were a few decades of decline but I’ve been here 13 years now and can tell you there’s real energy and investment happening here. Certainly in the Syracuse region.

@asymmetricinfo Painting with a broad brush, I’m afraid. Upstate is a large and diverse region home to millions of people. The metros along I90 are doing well, with stable population and major investments in manufacturing and tech. Fantastic place to live (speaking as a dmv native).

@CNYCentral This is the most ridiculous framing of the question, but to be expected from the ultra conservative Sinclair group that owns you.

@shagbark_hick Couldn’t agree more! The whole county is like a Rockwell painting. It’s as close to the “communitarian” ideal that I’ve experienced in my travels. Come visit Cazenovia…admittedly the yuppiest of the towns, but still very much rooted in its history and identify.

@RpsAgainstTrump Dole 1996. The Republican Party as I knew it growing up is dead.

@Childermass1 @shagbark_hick Also an influx of young professionals moving into downtown. Those numbers are also misleading because it’s for the city limits not the region as a whole. If you zoom out a bit population has basically been stagnant in CNY for a few decades. No boom town, but not so dire.

@shagbark_hick @TomKawczynski 100 pct. I describe my part as the northern edge of Appalachia. But Buffalo / Rochester more of a Midwest vibe.

@shagbark_hick Navy kid so a bit of everywhere. But formative years in Hawaii and Virginia before moving to Syracuse area (wife’s home town).

@shagbark_hick Won’t be too cold. Makes sense you like it, sort of NY’s North Country….especially the Virginia section, which is a fairly isolated frontier mostly forgotten about by the rest of the state.
