@timsa7tein The original posters comment on "colonizer Spanish" is probably really relevant, as literary language is more valued in Higher Ed than lived language. I guess it all depends on what the objectives of the credit course is... likely gonna leave someone out

@timsa7tein There is a lot going on in this thread that needs to be teased out RE heritage speakers and proficiency. "use Spanish all day long" is not a proficiency level. Also the people in the thread really invest in the idea of 'proper' language which needs unpacking.

This is probably an unpopular view, but I think cherry-picking evidence, at a certain level of severity, is morally equivalent to fabricating evidence.

@alexnpress What is the convention for saying these are Silicon Valley companies? Two of the three companies you're discussing are headquartered in the Puget Sound.

But don't argue with people on twitter about whether policies and laws are racist. Argue with your City Council and your state reps and senators and Mayor and alderman. And if you don't like how that argument went fire em.

Racism is NOT enacted through name calling or ways of thinking, it comes through laws and policies and tangible systemic functions. You can NOT defeat racism through symbolism alone, you have to incrementally pick at it through the same systems that allow it to operate.
