I think low birth rates are fundamentally a time scarcity problem. Money won't fix it until it can buy your time back. Examples: Stay at home spouse, full time daycare for multiple kids, nannies, night nurse, etc. Its a structural problem that two incomes are required for a middle class lifestyle.

Be careful what you wish for, there are n-order effects to all these changes. Imagine all the people on small lots paying the same taxes as you, they get together and vote to redistrict, kicking out all the “free loading” residents with huge houses. So retirees segregate into 55+ communities that don’t have to pay for schools, but then due to demographics, there’s not enough new buyers to move in, collapsing home prices, and erasing wealth that would have otherwise had if their homes were desirable to young couples. So instead of medicare being able to recoup costs for end of life care, the broader tax base subsidizes it, which is effectively a handout. A lot of hypotheticals, but stuff like that is going to happen. I'd rather just pay the damn property tax and have a functioning community.

@Chinos_Mustache @MrBill314159 I can see the argument for a flat tax, because a 1000 sqft house could consume the same amount of town services as somebody in a 5000 sqft house. BUT it would be a regressive tax in most cases. SS is already tied to inflation… I think tax tied to prop. value is the way to go.

@GamefxAI I'm saying in a hypothetical scifi future, where money is obsolete. In this future, a new currency will be how good you can make games that other people play for free. I agree 100% these capabilities break many parts of the current gaming industry.

You got me going this morning. Maybe this is the key to AI alignment. Instead of having a single AGI with perfect knowledge, ability, and executive function. Instead, you have 1000s of interlinked AGIs all with competing priorities that seek validation and consensus before acting.

@Intrinsic29 The closed loops of consciousness might be the fundamental unit, but they don't exist in a vacuum and seek validation from other loops as a built in self-correcting (calibrating?) mechanism to minimize drift away from social norms to maximize survival via group cohesion.

No amount of per pupil spending or teacher:student ratios can replace a stable, two parent household, where the parents are involved with their child's education AND the downstream culture that is created when most of the other students have the same home life. That is why district level median family income predicts educational outcomes more than anything, except SAT scores.
